General Questions About Hypnotherapy

1. What is hypnotherapy, and how does it work?

Hypnotherapy is a guided process that helps you enter a deeply relaxed, focused state where your subconscious mind becomes more open to positive change. In this state, we can reframe limiting beliefs, reduce stress, and reinforce empowering thoughts and behaviours.

2. What can hypnotherapy help with?

Hypnotherapy is highly effective for managing anxiety, stress, fears/phobias, life transitions, grief, self-confidence, and even physical concerns like pain management. It’s also widely used for women’s health, including fertility and hypnobirthing.

3. Is hypnotherapy scientifically-backed?

Yes! Research has shown that hypnotherapy can be an effective tool for managing anxiety, pain, and even behavioral change. Studies have demonstrated its benefits in areas like stress reduction, emotional resilience, and breaking unwanted habits.

4. What does hypnosis feel like? Will I be unconscious?

Hypnosis feels similar to deep relaxation—like being absorbed in a good book or a daydream. You remain fully aware and in control the entire time. Most clients describe it as calming and deeply refreshing.

5. How is hypnotherapy different from meditation or mindfulness?

While meditation and mindfulness help train your focus and awareness, hypnotherapy is goal-oriented. It uses guided suggestions, visualizations, and therapeutic techniques to create meaningful, lasting changes in your thoughts and behaviors.

6. How is hypnotherapy different from traditional psychotherapy?

Traditional psychotherapy and clinical hypnotherapy offer different approaches to healing. If you’re looking for ongoing talk therapy or a diagnosis, a licensed psychologist or psychotherapist may be the best fit. If you’re ready to work at the unconscious level to shift deep-seated patterns, process trauma, or rewire limiting beliefs in a solution-focused way, clinical hypnotherapy can be a powerful and effective approach. Some clients choose to do both, while others find that hypnotherapy alone meets their needs.

Practical & Booking Questions

7. How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions depends on your individual needs and goals. Many clients experience significant improvement within 3-6 sessions, but some choose to continue for deeper work or ongoing support.

8. How long is a session, and what happens during one?

A typical session lasts 60 minutes. Your first session is 75 minutes to allow time for a detailed discussion of your goals. Each session includes a combination of conversation, guided relaxation, and tailored hypnotherapy techniques.

9. What should I expect in my first session?

We’ll start with a conversation about your goals and any concerns you may have. I’ll explain how hypnosis works, and then we’ll do a personalized hypnotherapy session. You’ll leave feeling relaxed, empowered, and with practical takeaways to support your progress.

10. Can I book a discovery call before committing to sessions?

Yes! I offer a free 20-minute discovery call where we can discuss your needs, answer any questions, and determine if hypnotherapy is the right fit for you.

11. How do I book a session?

You can easily book a session through my online booking system. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!

Concerns & Misconceptions

12. Will I lose control or be made to do something I don’t want to?

Absolutely not. Hypnotherapy is not stage hypnosis—you remain fully in control at all times. You will never do or say anything against your will.

13. What if I can’t be hypnotized?

Most people can be hypnotized if they are open to the process. Hypnosis is simply a state of deep focus and relaxation, and I tailor the approach to suit your unique way of processing information.

14. What if I have trouble visualizing? Can hypnotherapy still work for me?

Yes! Hypnotherapy isn’t just about visualization. I use sensory-based techniques that work whether you process information through images, feelings, or words. Hypnosis is effective for all learning styles.

15. Is hypnotherapy safe? Are there any risks?

Yes, hypnotherapy is a safe and natural process. It’s a guided state of focused awareness, similar to meditation. There are no risks, and you can come out of hypnosis anytime you choose.

16. Can hypnotherapy work for deep-rooted issues like trauma or phobias?

Yes, hypnotherapy can be highly effective for addressing deep-rooted concerns. If trauma is involved, we will use gentle, trauma-informed techniques to ensure a safe and supportive experience.

17. Do I need to prepare for a session?
